WASHINGTON, NH:  James L. Hofford, 91, of Washington, went home to glory on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 23:17.   

Born in Columbus, OH, on October 3, 1928, he was the son of the late Harry Raymond and Charlotte (Loveday) Hofford, Sr.  Formerly residing in the Boston, MA area, he and his wife, Ellen (Reed) Hofford, made their home in Washington for 50 years.  

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army of occupation in Italy and was discharged IN March of 1948, later becoming a Captain in the U.S. Air Force Reserves until 1968. A graduate of Boston University and University of Michigan, he received his Ph.D. from Syracuse University. Most of his professional life was spent in college teaching and Christian ministry, with preference for evangelism. He and his wife traveled widely in missions with Eastern European Outreach, now Mercy Projects International. 

Family members include his wife, Ellen of 53 1/2 years; sons: William H. Hofford of Fairfax, VA; Dana W. Hofford Roxendal and wife Mariel of Garpenberg, Sweden; Paul C. Hofford of Sandy Springs, MD; Gregg J. Hofford and wife Catherine of Concord, NH; Adam W. Hofford and wife Leslie of Nantucket, MA; grandsons: Paul C. Hofford and wife Janis Dingels; Noah J. Hofford; Samuel D. Hofford; R. Liam Hofford Roxendal; granddaughters: Natasha Willow; Suzannah C. Hofford; Grace R. Hofford; Charlotte E. Hofford; Claudia N. Hofford; Amelia G. Hofford; Eleanor J. Hofford; Talia E. Hofford Roxendal and great-grandson Barrett H. Hofford Dingels; sister-in-law Nancy D. Hofford of Phoenix, AZ; brother-in-law Harrison P. Reed, Gloversville, NY; brother-in-law John G. Reed and wife Pensri of Roi-et, Thailand and many nephews and nieces. 

Services will be held Saturday January 4, 2020 at Valley Bible Chapel, 14 West Main Street, Hillsborough, NH at 1 pm. 

The Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service is assisting the family.
