KEENE, NH: Violet Madeline Nichols 99, Formally of Hillsboro, NH, died February 15, 2018 at Keene Center Genesis, Keene, NH.
She was born February 28, 1918 in Hillsboro, NH to the late H. Fred and Carrie (Johnson) Nichols. She was predeceased by three sisters, Bertha Piper of Exeter, NH, Beatrice Nichols of Keene, NH, and Arlene Donovan of Manchester, NH.
Violet was a graduate of the Hillsboro High School Class of 1939.
She worked as an accountant for the Hillsboro Hosiery Mills, and then as a medical secretary at Concord Hospital for five years, and subsequently as a legal secretary for Judge Harry Lichman for 26 years. Additionally, she was a Lecturer with the National Grange in the Keene and Cheshire Grange, a Clerk of the United Church of Christ in Keene, and past President of the Legal Secretary Association.
A member of the Business Professional Women’s Club, where she was the Treasurer, she loved traveling, knitting, and gardening. She was known to those close to her as a strong, independent and compassionate individual, highly organized and outspoken.
Violet was survived by her niece, Darlene Ferroli of Weare, NH and her nephew, Fred Donovan and his wife Savita of Manchester, NH, several great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as by a number of cousins.
A graveside service will be held in May at the Butler Yard Cemetery in Deering, NH.
